Swimming Tips

Swimming tips from a competent swimmer are critical if you are looking at improving your

skill and confidence in the water. Do you remember those school swimming carnivals where you always wished you could be the one who was standing on the podium at the end of the day? Whether you are learning how to swim, swimming in your backyard or local pool, or more difficult ocean swimming, getting good swimming tips from a credible source will be of great benefit to you.

Learning to Swim

One of the best swimming tips you will ever hear is simply to learn to swim and do it young. In Australia where I live our lifestyle is based around the beach, local pools or backyard pools. Learning to swim is as critical as learning how to walk and there are a large number of inexperienced people who needlessly drown each year because they did not learn how to swim as a child.

As a believer in providing good swimming tips I recommend getting formal swimming lessons from a registered and reputable swimming coach from a very young age. Gaining confidence and an understanding of how our bodies behave in the water allows us to better judge situations we are faced with.

Swimming in Pools

The most common place for people to swim is in the backyard or local swimming pool. Swimming tips you will hear for the backyard swimming pool are mostly centred on safety, understanding the pool depth, checking for objects or people before diving and even CPR.

Some recreational swimming tips include getting involved in some activities that can take your mind off the heat on a hot summers day and help you to work on your fitness at the same time. Swimming races, water polo, water volleyball, and even diving for rings or other objects on the bottom of the pool are all very active and guaranteed to get the heart rate up.

Ocean Swimming

When swimming in the ocean, as with swimming in pools, you will hear safety related swimming tips. It is critical that these are followed because the ocean holds many unknown and unseen elements that must be avoided such as rocks, seaweed, waves and certain fish life.

Some swimming tips for the less experienced ocean swimmer include staying between the flags on a patrolled beach, know your personal fitness limits, understand how waves and rips work and always tell someone where you are going. More experienced people might take on board swimming tips for body surfing, snorkelling, and longer range ocean swims of a number of kilometres.

Regardless of your level of awareness and confidence in the water, you will benefit from getting swimming tips from others. Gaining a different perspective from others will allow you to look at your own approach and introduce techniques to improve your overall ability.
