However, it can also be affected by other factors such as fitness level or fear. Solo Sports

Maintaining a high level of sport motivation for solo sports like swimming, fishing or golf

is most difficult as you are often competing against yourself at your own time and pace. Try to get into the habit of taking a friend along to push yourself or fit in a session at a time of day where you have serious time constraints. This will help build your sport motivation for this sport and you will enjoy the experience all the more due to a higher sense of achievement.

Team Sports

Most team sports require sport motivation and fitness in order for you to be competitive and to increase the level of enjoyment in the sport. Your chosen sport can include basketball, football, soccer, netball, cricket etc. When you are involved in a team sport your sport motivation is usually maintained by a need to not let your team mates down. You may also keep your sport motivation through the need to excel and succeed by taking your sport to higher levels.

Adventure Sports

Adventure sports like surfing, snowboarding, scuba diving, rock climbing or base

jumping etc require a high level of sport motivation. Motivation for these types of activities is usually a craving for the adrenalin rush, however, this can be hindered by fear of known and unknown factors. Known factors can be that you may not be feeling fit enough or maybe you were injured the last time you tried the sport. Unknown factors are usually associated with the weather and environment as adventure sports are notoriously reliant upon the outdoors environment.

Finding your own strategies for dealing with low sport motivation for the things you love doing will allow you to get out there and get into it. I like to go with a group of friends or family member because I know that nothing increases my sport motivation like a little bit of competition.

What ever your preference of sporting activity, take some time to consider what drives your motivation. You might find that the qualities that motivate you will assist in motivating you in other aspects of your life.
