Living a Healthy Lifestyle

Ever considered the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle? You may have had a recent reality check that made you stop and think about the life you are living and whether or not
you are reaching your full potential as a person. Maybe a family member has been diagnosed with heart disease, maybe you
feel out of breath and can’t keep up with your kids, or maybe you woke up one morning and found that you just couldn’t fit into those favourite jeans anymore.

I have discovered that there are several key factors for living a healthy lifestyle. These are eating a well balanced diet, good physical fitness, return balance to your life and a positive attitude. Living a healthy lifestyle is not only about being physically fit and healthy, it also requires a healthy, focussed frame of mind.

Well Balanced Diet

A balanced diet is a key ingredient for living a healthy lifestyle. “Eat well to live well”. If only it was as easy as it sounds. When you live a busy lifestyle, good nutrition can suffer.

A well balanced diet involves enjoying a wide variety of foods in moderation. Eating well also means being aware that everything you put in your mouth has a direct impact on your body. If you think something in your diet is unhealthy or may be having a bad affect on your body and preventing you from living a healthy lifestyle, then chances are it is. Try replacing those items with a healthier alternative and make a conscious decision to make healthy eating habits a priority in your life.

Good Physical Fitness

Living a healthy lifestyle is not just about spending hours at the gym pumping heavy weights and running til you drop on a treadmill. It is about staying active by doing exercise that you are passionate about and leaves you in a positive mental state. The types of activity might include team sports, adventure sports or other things that are geared more towards spending quality time with friends, family or your favourite pet.

Sit down and put some thought into what you could take up that will get you out of your favourite armchair. It may be something a friend or family member does or something your have seen on TV that looks like fun. If all else fails get yourself a dog and walk it around the block until you figure it out!

Return Balance to Your Life

Living a healthy lifestyle requires peace of mind that you have your life prioritised around the things that matter most. If you find that you are spending so much time at the office that you are unable to eat well, stay active and spend time with the people in your life that matter, then you are not living a healthy lifestyle and it is time for change.

Your daily to do list should include all activities that you need to do on a particular day including those activities that contribute to you living a healthy lifestyle. Put that swimming or yoga session higher on the list than writing another meaningless report. Living a healthy lifestyle will start to have a positive effect on your work as you will feel healthier, more confident in yourself and more alert when it really counts.

A Positive Attitude

Living a healthy lifestyle requires setting achievable goals and

milestones, focusing on them and working to achieve them. Maintaining focus on those goals is easiest when you build your goals around things that you are passionate about. This is also best achieved when you associate with people who have similar goals or get their kicks out of the same activities as you.

Combining enjoyable activities with good company is a sure way of ensuring that you remain focused on achieving your goals.
